Karl .... (Photo captions are a work in progress) Auto Gallery Home    M60 Home

Built in October, 1970, Karl is a 1971 VW Superbeetle, the first year the convertibles were made. He has the flat windshield made only for 1971 and half of 1972. These photos show what a thorough, correct restoration was done. And beautifully well done at that!

Driver side body panel (inside).

Passenger door with top hardware.

Stripped passenger door ready to dismount.

Row info will go here for each row. For now, the photo captions are the curator's best guess.

Stripped driver door ready to dismount.

Driver's door showing total rotted heating channel.

Passenger's door opening showing totally rotted heating channel. It was filled with spray foam insulating material.

Dash panel after instrument removal. The steering column is in place.

Fender panel. Perhaps.

Outer body behind door opening showing body work.

Passenger side fender panel.

Close-up of seat support.

Passenger side seat riser and support with door in place.

Detroit Lions. Or not.

Passenger side inner wheel well.

Underside of hood. Trunk lid. The front one.

Looking down and forward on body floor and drive shaft tunnel.

Looking down and rearward on body floor and drive shaft tunnel.

Cowl and dash sanded and prepped for paint. Steering column and ignition switch are still in the car.

Underside view of cowl and dash showing openings for glove box, radio, and fresh air vents. Dash appears ready for paint.

View of the cowl looking toward the rear of the cowl. The round opening is for the steering column.

Hump stamped out in cowl and dash. The Beetle had one hump, the Samba two.

More of above. Some butchery of the floor is seen.

And yet again another view.

Next to last cowl view, from roughly the driver's seat.

Last cowl view? Perhaps. When this was being sanded a message reading "Paul is Dead" was found scratched into the surface.
